Oh, they’re likable enough, I guess.
As to why I’m their best uncle it’s probably because of the life lessons I’ve taught them and the largesse I’ve bestowed upon them.
Update – February 2021: I’ve given more thought to this question about the adults that my sister’s children have grown into. I would like to add that at times to their credit they seem to display good qualities.
Update – March 2021: What do I think about them as adults? Well, Joe has the whitest hair, Maura has the best black and white clothing ensemble, and Jane, well, she has my car.
Update – April 2021: I’ve been thinking about this question again in the past 10 days and have decided that Joe, Maura, and Jane probably are in the top ten of my favorite relatives over the age of 50.
Update – April 2021: While I haven’t seen them in person in the past 16 months, I have seen their pictures on Facebook and they all surprisingly seem to be aging graciously. Good for them.
Update – May 2021: I think the reason I’m having a difficult time bringing this topic to closure is that for the longest time I worried about whether two of them would ever amount to anything, but I am glad that concern turned out to be unfounded.
Update – June 2021: I could go on and on about these three Godchildren of mine because they are such easy targets, but my publisher has warned me that I am running up against the deadline for this book. So let me just say I am so proud of the adults they have become. They are truly a credit to their parents. I love them to bits, but I’m not leaving a dime to any of them.
